So.Ma.S WebGis

Evmolpos Soil Mapping System [So.Ma.S] is a web-based soil management system to assist farmers and land managers in achieving “best practice” agricultural outcomes.

It is used all over the agricultural industry to manage resources, increase yields, reduce input costs, predict outcomes, and more. The powerful analytical capabilities allow for the examination of farm conditions and monitor the effects of farm management practices, including crop yield estimates and soil amendment analyses. So.Ma.S Farm Management can be also used to reduce farm input costs such as fertilizer, fuel, seed, labor, and transportation. In addition, farm managers can use the platform to automatically generate reports required by law.

So.Ma.S Architecture

At the server side, So.Ma.S architecture is used to take care of raster tile manipulation and to process vector data – both in order to minimize traffic (supports low bandwidth) and to optimize client’s engagement.

Web editor is much more complex system than web viewer because of it's ability to edit spatial data and geometries.

This way each user can add, edit or delete certain points on map. Nowadays we can find many common technologies which are based on HTML5 technology. This becomes a problem when you're still trying reach out to users who still use older browser (IE8-). For this purpose we use mostly SVG and VML shapes for editing. This way we're to minimize the trouble for most of users how to manage web GIS editor.

Architecture and data structure
Web-GIS platform for implementing Spatial Data

So.Ma.S Web-GIS is used to import, export, manipulate and develop various cartographic products. The layer manager includes vector and raster data (satellite images, thematic maps and density maps).

Main functionalities of GIS editor:
  • Managing daily farm activities

  • Property and lease management

  • Support for precision farming

  • Reporting and subsidies

  • Scheduling activities

  • Calendar view of used actions on all farms

  • Remote sensing based decision support

  • Generating reports for used materials
